The Shield configuration page allows administrators to set up basic HTTP authentication for their Drupal site, providing an additional layer of security. Key settings include:

• Username and Password: Set the username and password required to access the site.

Using Shield is especially useful for protecting development and staging environments from unauthorized access. By requiring HTTP authentication, you can ensure that only authorized users can view and interact with your site during its development stages.

NOTE

Be aware that caching and Varnish may not work as expected with basic authentication enabled.
